To draw Writing / To write drawing

Written Language: First you see the shapes of handwritten or printed words that form the text as a body and only then you throw yourself into the meaning(s).

The artistic approach I have been developing until now is one of a relation between images and words (i.e. moving images as well as spoken and written words). Now I’m practicing ephemeral writing as a sustained research process using relational work in an urban context.

In Efimera Vulgata – a video I made in 2006 – what occurs is a displacement of writing, a chance relationship exists from language to the object and from the object to the language. Throughout the recording process, five strategic city sites are incorporated into the writing. Then, three interlaced ideas emerge:

There is an ambiguous relationship between the affinity of the three forms and the mistrust of our perceptions. So many possible combinations link the impermanent to the permanent. I think this process illustrates a finite way to meld languages.

In Spanish, the word image is an anagram of enigma.
When we discompose words, we give another order, and in that way a new sense, resignifying the perceived. I recognized myself in the movement that leads to see the infinite/finite way in which language mates. The love of words is augmented by the suspiciousness of understanding; in front of the danger of misunderstanding, it moves and is displaced.
We think of words as possible combinations, the permanent habitats of gambling. The image of the written word takes us back into a field of crossings, where the visual and the textual knit themselves in different links. The link is concretized by carrying a group of words to the building of a letter, so that it generates a composition based in units of significance.
From the word DANGER I made just 100 different words when, in fact, DANGER has 720 possible anagrams. It is a factorial issue of probabilities and significance, because in the selection of ready-made words, there are many that signify in other languages (that also could be nicknames or words that designate really specific things), but that is exactly where my interest is located, in the aperture to other languages, in the human capacity to handle multiples tongues.

There are three moments: The initial moment, when the anagrams where made by un-doing the word DANGER, the copy and pasting of the plastic yellow tape, and then, the second moment of the ephemeral intervention (disposition of the anagrams in a public space). Next, in the third moment, the anagrams are taken down and reused. Phrases appear when the words written in different specific sites come in interaction through documentation and edition.

The order of the factors does change the product.
The factorial  demonstrates its potential; each place makes a universe, since it starts to signify in a language that we don’t know. Each anagram works as a unit with which I wrote words, as are pixels to the numeric image. When I began to make words, I set a rule—all the words must signify in Spanish and French.

The plastic tape Danger demarcates a space, warning and underling a territorial threat. Something happens there that we can’t approach, a calling to take distance; curiously it’s the same distance imposed in museums in front of original masterpieces, a warning tape draws a protective space in front of what you are seeing. And this is what makes me think in the danger that exists in spoken language, the communication that trusts in understanding. Then finally, spoken and written language reduces us to what’s local, and the visual returns us to the global.

The installation of the anagrams responds to a calligramatic condition, where there exists a link with concrete poetry and with the “jitanjáfora” . With a special interest in the Babilonic character of language, the different combinations throw us to a phonic lake of unsuspected deepness. The sound of the video “Installed anagrams” submerges us in the association of the sonority of the words in French and in Spanish, and then relates the image to a sound, exploring the scars that the mother tongue leaves us with.

WORDS that came up

SOL means floor in French, and means sun in Spanish.
TE is a reflexive pronoun that means yourself in French and Spanish.
ENTRE means between in French and Spanish.
VER means worm in French and means to see in Spanish.
VIVE means a spider fish in French and a conjugation of the verb to live both in French and Spanish.
LAME means blade in French and a conjugation of the verb to lick in Spanish.
SUR in French means on, above and sour; in Spanish it means south.

ANAGRAMAS INSTALADOS

Imagen es anagrama de enigma.
Cuando descomponemos damos otro orden, y por lo tanto un nuevo sentido, resignificando lo percibido. Me afirmo en esta corriente que lleva a ver la infinita finita manera de aparearse del lenguaje. La afición por las palabras aumenta por la suspicacia del entendimiento; ante el peligro del malentendido, va y se desplaza.
Se piensa en las palabras como una combinatoria posible, donde habita una apuesta permanente. La imagen de la palabra escrita nos devuelve a un campo de cruces donde lo visual y lo textual se tejen en diversos vínculos. El vínculo aquí presente es llevar la letra a un conjunto de palabras, entonces se genera una composición a base de unidades de importancia.
A partir de DANGER hice sólo 100 palabras distintas, ya que DANGER tiene 720 posibles anagramas ; es un asunto factorial de probabilidades y significación, porque de las palabras hechas, hay muchas que significan en otros idiomas, (pueden ser nicknames o palabras que designen cosas muy específicas) pero justamente ahí radica el interés, la apertura hacia otros idiomas, la capacidad humana para manejar muchas lenguas.
Existen tres momentos: El momento inicial donde los anagramas fueron hechos deshaciendo la palabra DANGER, corta y pega de la cinta; luego, el momento de la intervención efímera (disposición de los anagramas en algún lugar público, luego los anagramas se retiran del lugar, siendo reutilizados varias veces) la escritura de palabras en sitios específicos; luego, después el registro que se yergue como una palabra en sí, la que empieza a interactuar con las demás palabras, formando frases.
El orden de los factores si altera el producto

El factorial habla de su potencial, y cada lugar hace un universo, desde que empieza a significar en un idioma que no conocemos. Cada anagrama funciona como una unidad con la cual escribo palabras, como lo que es el pixel a la foto numérica. Y así, cuando empecé a hacer las palabras me puse una regla, éstas debían significar en español y en francés .
La cinta Danger (peligro en español), demarca un espacio, advierte y subraya una amenaza territorial. Algo pasa ahí que no nos permite acercarnos, es un llamado a la distancia; que curiosamente es la misma distancia impuesta en los museos ante una obra original, un cordel (una huincha, una cinta) demarca un espacio protector ante lo que estamos viendo. Y esto es lo que me hace pensar en el peligro que subyace al lenguaje hablado, a la comunicación; el confiar en el entendimiento, y finalmente el lenguaje nos reduce a lo local, y lo visual nos devuelve un carácter global .
La instalación de los anagramas responde a una condición caligramática, donde existe un vínculo con la poesía concreta y con la jitanjáfora . Interesando el carácter babilónico del lenguaje, las probabilidades de combinatoria nos arrojan a una laguna fónica de profundidades insospechadas. Así el video de anagramas instalados nos sumerge en la asociación de sonido a imagen, explorando las cicatrices que deja en nosotros la lengua materna.

PIE en francés significa urraca, cotorra.

TE. Pronombre, lo mismo que en español.

ENTRE. Preposición, lo mismo que en español.

VER en francés significa gusano, lombriz.

VIVE en francés significa peje araña y la interjección viva!

Mi búsqueda en el lenguaje se encuentra en el espacio intermedio de lo que ya existía y de la unión, mezcla, conjunción de sentidos; si es por nombrar, aparece la invención como la única posibilidad válida para sintetizar lo que experimento producto de hallazgos propios del proceso de obra. Además la necesidad de nombrar con un sentido propio, donde exista una inauguración, una apertura de sentidos es parte también de  mi proceso creativo. Así los neologismos son la columna vertebral de mi trabajo, y desde ahí se podría estructurar un cuerpo aparte, hecho de coloniajes verbales infieles.
